The Noordermarkt and the ancient Westerstraat with their Lapjesmarkt (Patches market), the Waterlooplein, the Albert Cuyp market, the Dappermarkt, became popular after the turn of the century or just poke around and strolling on the many markets that Amsterdam has.
Amsterdam has a very unique and rich market history. Much has been preserved by the market history, letting you enjoy this delightful market town. Centuries ago when the first markets started in Amsterdam visitors came from all over the world.
People came from all over the world to Holland to visit the markets of Amsterdam in order to develop and certainly to promote world trade. So there were all sorts of facilities in addition to the market for the visitors to make use of.
One can safely say that the markets of Amsterdam had great influence on the world economy. The Canal houses and its historic atmosphere speak volumes... The Dutch had a good nose for trade and it shows still today...
